UPCOMING SJMC EVENTS:
SJMC Turkey Bowl -Friday, November 18th
The St. Joseph ’s Men’s Club will be holding its annual “Turkey Bowl” on Friday, November 18th at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Center . The Turkey Bowl is a fun-filled evening of fanfare, contests and raffles, including an introduction of each of the children’s basketball teams for the new season, and is topped off by end-to-end excitement as the Varsity boys’ and girls’ teams will each take on their respective parents in “friendly” basketball games! There will be an extended snack bar and activities for the little ones, so please bring your family, and your appetite, and come join in the fun!
St. Joseph’s Men’s Club Meeting
The Men’s Club will hold its next meeting Thursday, November 3rd, 2010, at 7:45 p.m., in the school cafeteria. All members and prospective members are encouraged to attend. Please take advantage of this opportunity to play an important role in the lives of your children and our parish.
Women’s Basketball — Open Gym
The St. Joseph ’s Men’s Club is sponsoring an open gym for the women of the Parish, each Wednesday night from about 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the SJS Gym. All over-30 female SJMC members, or women with family members who are SJMC members, are cordially invited to lace up their high tops and hit the court for some great fun and even better exercise!

The SPRING 2011 Playoffs Line

Gold (6) 2 E 83 Red (8) Red 44-25
This week’s line has moved all over the place – this guy can’t make it Thursday, this guy can’t make it Tuesday, this guy has book club, this guy is travelling, blah, blah, blah. So, as the league management has been able to accommodate both squads, we have it on good account that both teams will be at full staff. That means Cush shows up for Gold & Goodman shows up for Red, effectively a wash as their presence essentially cancels each other out.
These teams are very evenly matched – Gold has a scant 2.2ppg offensive advantage and gives up an even 2ppg less than Red. That would dictate the line opening at about 4. However the Red’s run from worst to first cut the opening line in half as the early money came in large on the Redmen as a result of a Balseiro “North Jersey guarantee” to Vinnie 5 points that was overheard on a pay phone at the diner.
In the end this will come down to 3 things:
- 1. Can Gold control the inside game, ie: convert on the block and dominate the boards
- 2. Can Red put enough points on the board after finishing last in Team PPG?
- 3. Will either team convert from the line as they finished 7th & 8th during the season.
This can go either way, there is no doubt, and an argument can be made for both teams walking away with the Greyhound Cup. Yet, they don’t pay the dunce big money for nothing, or any money at that -so here goes nothing: Yellow’s size proves to be too much for the Redmen to handle down the stretch and Clancy adds yet another piece of hardware to his ever-expanding collection. Prediction: Yellow 45 Red 41.

This week’s question: Who is the only (to my knowledge) Men’s League player to win a championship in each of his first three seasons? Answer next Friday.
